Developing book with your own hands

In your family, or in the family of your relatives is expected to replenish? What happiness! Or maybe a little fidget has already been born and is actively trying the world around him? Great. So, it's time to think about how to help him with this. And what is the best helper in the path of knowledge? That's right, the book.

Modern shops are full of bright covers, under which are hidden fairy tales and fascinating stories, but this is for the future. And now we suggest that you put aside the routine of household chores and design the first developing book for your baby with your own hands.

Where to begin?

First, you need to determine the form, size, number of pages and materials of the future book. The simplest form for a self-developing softbook will be a square or a rectangle. But it does not matter. Forms can be other, for example, a circle, an oval or a triangle, a flower or a butterfly, the possibilities here are wide.

Now about the sizes. Too big a book will tire a baby, and too small will limit your opportunities for decorating. The optimal size is 20 by 20 or 20 by 25 cm. This also applies to the diameter of the circle. Well, and what will be your flower or butterfly - decide for yourself.

How many pages in our developing book? It depends on your desire and the age of the baby. You can make first only one and then, as the child grows, add new ones. And you can immediately sew a full-scale book. Optimum is considered to be 8 pages, 3 double-reversal and cover.

And we'll select materials so that the baby can not get hurt by them, and, at the same time, the development book made by the hands was bright, lively and exciting. For example, natural materials (chintz, linen, coarse calico, silk, wool, etc.) are suitable, yarn is better than sheep or camel, braid, decorative ribbons and buttons, large beads and bugles, Velcro fasteners and foam for filling pages.

How to sew a development book?

Having dealt with the theory, we turn to practice. Consider how to sew a soft developing book yourself with the example of a square with sides 20 to 20 cm and 8 pages.

  1. First we make pages. They consist of two layers, between which we place foam rubber 1 cm thick. So, cut out 6 rectangles 20 by 40 cm (2 for each page). Fold them face to face and on the wrong side we sew on three edges (the bottom edge is left unmarked). It was a bag. We turn it to the face and, laying it with a non-sewn side, hold a strong vertical line strictly in the middle. This is the fold. Everything, the double is ready. Similarly, we make two more of the same.
  2. The cover is sewed on the same principle, but instead of folding it has a spine, to which pages are sewn. In our case, it is 6 cm. 1 cm (thickness of the foam rubber) multiplied by 6 pages = 6 cm. Hence, for the cover you need to take a rectangle 20 by 46 cm.
  3. To more accurately postpone the width of the spine, sewn along three edges, fold the cover in half and set aside from the fold three cm in each direction. It is in these places and will be vertical lines. Our workpieces are ready, we put foam in them and collect a book.
  4. How to sew our developmental book? Very simple. We will attach pages for folds to the counterfoil. First we sew the central double, and then the lateral ones. For more convenience on the spine, you can draw lines of places of sewing.

Decor

How to make our educational book colorful and interesting, depends on the goal pursued by you. If the baby is not a year, then make it simple pictures. Pussy with moving paws and long mustaches, which can be pinched. A dog with a pouch on the belly and hanging ears, in which rustle of whiff or rolling beads, a flower with soft bending petals, under which the bee hides on the velcro. And more contrast, the children love it.

For older children, the soft-developing book should be thematic. Pets and birds, beasts of the forest, insects, garden and garden, the inhabitants of the sea. The main thing is do not forget about the decoration. Paws and wings should move, and pears and apples are fastened to branches and retracted into a pocket-pocket, insects hide in flowers and creep along the leaves. Everything rattles, rustles and overflows with a cascade of bright colors.

As you can see, making a development book with your own hands is not at all difficult. How it will be for you, decide for yourself. Try, experiment, and you will succeed.
