Diacarb - indications for use

Diakarb is a synthetic drug that has a diuretic effect, normalizing the acid-base balance and water-mineral metabolism in the body.

Composition and pharmacological properties of Diakarba

The main active ingredient of Diacarb is acetazolamide. As auxiliary substances in the tablets are microcrystalline cellulose, povidone, silicon dioxide and magnesium stearate. Produced in the form of white biconvex tablets, each containing 250 mg of active ingredient.

Diacarb is a potent inhibitor of carbonic anhydrase, it inhibits the release of sodium and hydrogen ions, and thus increases the excretion of water and sodium from the body, affects the mineral metabolism in the body.

Diakarb is used as a diuretic, miotic and antiglaucoma agent. Diuretic activity of the drug is rather weak, moreover, the diuretic effect disappears after three days of regular intake of Diacarb and is restored only after a break in admission. Therefore only as a diuretic Diakarb is practically not used, although the drug is indicated for use as part of complex therapy for a number of diseases of the genitourinary system.

Indications for the use of Diakarb tablets

This drug is used for violations of water-salt balance, water and sodium retention in the body of various genesis:

  1. When treating various forms of glaucoma, both primary and secondary, to normalize intraocular pressure due to fluid outflow.
  2. In the complex treatment with increased intracranial pressure.
  3. In the treatment of patients with heart disease and circulatory disorders, as a means of mobilizing edematous fluid.
  4. With fibrosis and emphysema of the lungs, as well as with asthma, by reducing the drug level of carbon dioxide in the blood.
  5. With epilepsy (in conjunction with anticonvulsants).
  6. With edema caused by medications.
  7. With mountain sickness, to accelerate acclimatization.

The use of diacarb is contraindicated when:

Dosing and Administration of Diacarb

The duration, frequency and dosage of Diacarb depends on the treatment for which disease it is used:

  1. As diuretics Diakarb take 1 (rarely 2) tablets, once a day. Not more than three days.
  2. When treating cardiac edema, take one tablet every other day for two consecutive days, followed by a one-day break.
  3. In the treatment of glaucoma, Diacarb takes 0.5-1 tablets up to 4 times a day, with five-day courses, between which a break is made at least two days.
  4. In epilepsy, Diakarab is administered long courses, 0.5-1 tablets daily, up to 3 times a day, in combination with anticonvulsant medications.
  5. With the possibility of a mountain sickness, a massive intake of the drug is shown the day before the onset of recovery, 2-4 tablets throughout a day in several receptions. In case the mountain sickness has already manifested, the drug is taken according to the above scheme for 2 days.

The duration of the drug is 12-14 hours, the maximum effect is observed after 4-6 hours after administration. It should be noted that the excess of the required dosages of Diacarb does not increase the therapeutic effect. With prolonged reception without interruptions, the drug ceases to act and again becomes effective only after a 2-3 day break, when the body normalizes the production of carbonic anhydrase.
