Diseases of courgettes and their treatment

Like all plants growing on our beds, zucchini is also characterized by diseases and pests. There are no specific diseases that only zucchini suffer, they are affected by the same infections and pests as cucumbers, pumpkins and other plants. Zucchini diseases can affect the plant both at the beginning of the growing season and at any other time. So you always need to be vigilant to have time to respond in time to diseases and pests of courgettes.

Diseases of courgettes

The most common disease is powdery mildew . Mostly it is a disease of zucchini leaves, although if it is not stopped in time, it can hit the entire bush together with the fruits and the crop can not be saved. This disease is manifested in the appearance of spots on the upper side of the leaf plate. First, the spots are not large, but gradually they expand, capturing the entire leaf. The leaf looks like it was sprinkled with flour - hence the name.

The disease appears when there is thickening of plantings, and therefore, poor airing, as well as watering with cold water. The diseased parts of the plant must be burned, because mushroom spores can winter in them and infect new plants for the next year. As soon as the first signs of the disease are found, the plants should be treated from the sprayer with a solution of Mullein or a solution of colloidal sulfur 30 grams per 10 liters of water. A good result is pollination of plants with sulfur powder, which must be repeated in a week.

Another disease that often affects the planting of zucchini is anthracnose. On the leaves appear yellow spots, which gradually turn black. If signs of the disease are found, the affected leaves should be removed and the plants treated with anthracnose.

Not rare in zucchini and bacterial decay. The causes that cause it are the same as that of mildew. To stop distribution, it is necessary to stop watering, remove rotted parts of plants and treat bushes with copper oxychloride 50%.

Pests of zucchini

The most common insects that settle on zucchini are aphids and whitefly. Having settled on the plant, they cover it in a short time, causing the leaves and ovary to curl and dry up. To combat these uninvited guests use either special store tools from them, or they use folk methods. You can prepare a solution of ash or infusion of onion husk with the addition of laundry soap and black pepper and sprinkle it with zucchini.
