Children's nocturnal enuresis is one of the most common problems of modern pediatrics. There are opinions that this disease is not treated at all or that the child will eventually outgrow the night "misunderstandings". Is it really? How to cure baby's enuresis and what methods really work? In this article we have collected information for you that can help in the treatment of enuresis in children.
Night and daytime enuresis in children: is treatment necessary?
Urinary incontinence in a child in a dream can occur for a number of reasons:
- immaturity of the nervous system, which is responsible for the neural connection of the excretory system with the brain;
- psychological disorders, nervous diseases, stress;
- presence of infectious diseases of the urinary tract;
- lack of control over the emptying of the bladder.
Small children during the first few years of weaning from diapers have every right to periodic "wet things" during day and night sleep. In children under 5 due to physiological factors, such episodes also sometimes occur, which, however, do not yet indicate the presence of enuresis. In this case, doctors often use expectant management in conjunction with the "family positive": no stress, quarrels, punishments.
If a 6-year-old child still has a persistent tendency to become an enuresis, then it is necessary to help him and take action, because the older a person becomes, the harder it is to perceive such "misses", which can lead to psychological problems.
Methods of treatment of nocturnal enuresis in children
It should be noted that none of the methods listed below does not give an absolute guarantee of cure for enuresis. Some methods are slightly more effective, others are less effective. Which of them will be the best for your child, is determined in each specific situation and depends on the cause of the disease and the physiology of the baby.
All methods of solving this problem can be divided into four groups.
- Drug treatment of enuresis in children (medication). They are used, firstly, for the treatment of concomitant enuresis of infectious diseases of the urinary tract (antibiotics), and, secondly, as sedatives to increase the depth of sleep (such tranquilizers as glycine , phenibut , radedorm, eunotin and others). In the latter case, tablets from enuresis in children are helpful, but they do not guarantee absence of nocturnal episodes after the end of the course.
- Psychological methods of influence . Very popular is the treatment of enuresis in children with hypnosis, in which the doctor encourages a small patient to wake up when urinating to urinate or control this process during the day. Treatment sessions of hypnosis have their supporters and opponents, however their effectiveness (in some cases, temporary, in others - long) is proved by practice.
- Physiotherapy (acupuncture, massage, laser therapy and other manipulations) is rather an auxiliary than the main method.
- Observance of a clear daily routine . This method includes the following recommendations:
- raising and retirement must be repeated from day to day at about the same time;
- the child should have dinner no later than 3 hours before bedtime;
- drink down dinner best with a few sips of herbal soothing infusion;
- for an hour before sleep do not let the child drink, but be sure to ask to go to the toilet;
- At night in a children's room the night light should burn, and near the bed there is a pot.
The above methods are rarely used separately. To successfully overcome enuresis, an integrated approach is needed. Not in vain in the treatment of this disease, doctors of different profiles take part: this is the neurologist, urologist, nephrologist, and psychotherapist. Even if your child is already big enough, never scold him for wetting the bed. On the contrary, help him believe in himself and the fact that he will soon be able to successfully cope with enuresis with your help.
