Guanacaste National Park

The Guanacaste Reserve is one of the largest parks of Costa Rica , its area is 340 sq. Km. The park is distinguished by its climatic diversity. Its territory is covered by several types of forests: wet evergreen tropical and dry deciduous. In the upper part of the park are the ancient volcanoes of Orosi (Orosi) and Cacao (Cacao), here the rivers of Colorado and Ahogado are born.

All this inevitably affects the animal and plant world of the reserve, which is represented by a multitude of species of mammals, birds, reptiles and insects. Here you can find deer and jaguars, tapirs and armadillos, toucans and owls, coats and capuchins, etc. Guanacaste National Park in Costa Rica is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Where to stay?

There are three research stations in the park: Cacao, Maritza and Pitilla. Here you can stay in one of the hostels, but only if you have previously agreed with the administration and booked a room. Do not count on special comfort and service. Everything is quite simple and ascetic. I'll have to bring food with me.

You can also stay in one of the hotels in Liberia . This small, but charming town, whose houses are painted white, for which it was even called "White City".

To the tourist on a note

  3. Do not forget about the remedy for insect bites. Mosquitoes and other annoying winged in the park quite a lot.
  4. It is best to go here on an all-wheel drive car, as the roads of the park in the asphalt are not rolled.
