History and architecture

The Albanian Leader's Mosque (Xhamia e Plumbit) was built in 1773, its founder is Albanian Pasha Busati Mehmet. The lead mosque is 2 km from the city on the shore of Lake Shkoder, just behind the fortress of Rosafa. A distinctive feature of Xhamia e Plumbit is the absence of minarets, characteristic of other religious Muslim buildings.

The name of the mosque is due to construction technologies: the ancient builders knew little about the harm of lead, so they generously used it in their buildings to strengthen the masonry.

In the 60s of the 20th century, the country had the so-called "Cultural Revolution", when Albania declared itself the world's only atheistic country and destroyed many religious buildings, fortunately, the Lead Mosque suffered only partially (the minaret was lost), the main building was destroyed was not and today we can see it in its original form.
