Most tourists prefer to visit Panama in the dry season, which lasts from mid-December to April-May. Then the rainy season begins. Tropical rainstorms are usually short, but abundant, which can serve as a barrier to movement, including on the islands.

Mamei belongs to the territory of the Portobello National Park and at the same time is a private property (there is a large house belonging to a Spanish millionaire). In this regard, the night on the island is not allowed, and excursions arrive here only in the daytime.

It is quite a small island, reaching only 200 m in width. It is interesting because it is covered with thick mangrove forests, in which you can meet rare birds. Among the inhabitants of the coastal waters near the island of Mamei, you can meet 4 species of sea turtles, including the endangered species - turtle bisza. Once a year the turtles come here to lay their eggs.

Mamei Island is perfect for a relaxing holiday for those who seek peace, solitude and harmony with nature. On the south side, you can sunbathe on the sandy beach and swim in the clear waters of the Caribbean Sea.

In addition, in this place there are excellent conditions for divers, who are attracted by local corals and colorful fish.

How to get there?

To visit the island of Mamei, you first need to fly to the city ​​of Panama . Flights of various airlines offer flights with transfers in Madrid, Frankfurt or Amsterdam, as well as through some cities in the US and Latin America.

Further from Panama City you need to drive about 2 hours by car or take a taxi, heading towards the fortress of Portobelo, and then get in 5 minutes by boat. Also on the boat you can swim from the sandy beach of the island of Grande , the road will take only 5-10 minutes.
