Murom - attractions

Murom - the oldest city in Russia, the same age as its statehood, is located in the Vladimir region, closer to the border with the Nizhny Novgorod. Despite the fact that the city does not vary in size, and its population is only about 118 thousand people, Murom has something to see - for its interesting centuries-old history, it has accumulated many monuments of culture, architecture and long-past events.

Monument to Ilya Muromets in Murom

This is perhaps the most significant landmark of Murom - the homeland of the most famous Russian hero, the hero of numerous tales and epic stories. It was erected in 1999 on the high point of the observation platform - the place where the boundary of the division of the Russian lands once passed.

The monument embodies the two hypostases of the great hero - a monk and a warrior. In his left hand he holds a cross, pressing it to his chest, from under the military cloak, a monastic robe is seen. In the right raised hand he holds a sword.

Oak Park in Murom

This is the oldest park in the country, a place that once had a truly epoch-making significance. In ancient times, a favorite place for recreation and entertainment of the residents of Murom was a powerful wooden fortress - the Kremlin, which many times saved our ancestors from enemy raids. In the middle of the 16th century the fortress was stopped to repair as a matter of inadequacy, and after that it was completely disassembled, having smashed the park on the hill. The Kremlin itself was later reinstated in a three-dimensional model.

The bridge across the Oka in Murom

The bridge across the Oka, connecting the Vladimir and Nizhny Novgorod regions, strikes with its scale and is a source of pride not only for city residents, but for Russians in general. This is a unique three-pylon reinforced concrete structure, about 1,400 meters long.

The bridge was commissioned in 2009 and since then it has been removing the main traffic flows from the city. In addition to the directly functional, it also has an important aesthetic value - wedding corteges are constantly coming to this picturesque place for unforgettable photo sessions.

Monastery in Murom

The Savior-Transfiguration Monastery is one of the main pilgrimage sites for the guests of Murom. It is a whole complex of sanctuaries, which includes the Church of the Savior, the Intercession Cathedral, the Holy Gate, the Sergius Gate Church, the brotherly building, and a number of farm buildings.

The inhabitants of the monastery live in subsistence economy, the territory contains livestock and poultry, and bakeries, in which about 30 people work, daily bake about 6 tons of bread.

At the main entrance there is a bas-relief of the holy natives of Murom, the spouses Peter and Fevronia, who are considered patrons of the family hearth and are extremely revered by the Orthodox laity.

Holy Trinity Monastery in Murom

The convent was founded in the middle of the 17th century and is famous for its elegant and light architecture, called the "Russian Uzoroch". Among the most significant temples of the monastery complex, the oldest Kazan tent church with a chapel occupies the first place.

Next in importance and seniority - the church of St. Sergius of Radonezh, built of wood in 1715. It is interesting that it is not "local", because it was transported here from the Melenkovsky district in the 80s of the last century to create a museum complex, when the monastery did not function. But the Holy Trinity Monastery was restored, and along with it the former importance and sanctuaries, located on its territory, gained.

The most famous temple of the monastery, and the whole Murom, perhaps - the Temple of Peter and Fevronia or the Trinity Cathedral. Here relics of holy believers rest, to which people from all corners of the country come to pray for family happiness.

Not far from Murom are other major cities - Nizhny Novgorod and Vladimir .
