Cala Mayor

Cala Mayor is a "capital" resort: it is located just 7 km from Palma de Mallorca . It is quite a fashionable resort: and due to its proximity to the capital, and thanks to the climate (Kala-Mayor is protected from the northern winds by the relief of the island), it was firstly chosen by the richest residents of the capital to build their villas here. This resort is very popular with vacationers. You can get there by bus from Palma or directly from the airport - by taxi; from the airport the resort is 15 km away, and the trip will take about 15 minutes, and its cost will be around 20 euros. Cala Major in Mallorca is considered to be the most secular resort - here often rests representatives of the richest families in Europe and Hollywood stars.

Beach season

The beach season begins here earlier than at all other resorts of the island. The beach of the Cala Mayor is "divided" into several: large and wide beaches alternate with small coves, protected by rocks. 3 cliffs protruding from the water opposite Illetas, can be clearly seen from the Cala Mayor beach. The beach is in demand with local residents, so at weekends it can be crowded.

Where to stay at the resort?

Hotels in Cala Mayor are a sample of luxury and comfort. There are not too many of them here (the resort is relatively small), but almost all of them are in close proximity to the sea. This is mainly 4 * and 5 * hotels, although there are several and 3 *.

The most popular are Nixie Palace 5 *, Hotel Be Live Adults Only Marivetn 4 *, Hotel Mirablau 3 *, Hotel Be Live Adults Only La Cala 4 * and others.

However, you can find hotels and cheaper - for example, in Palma itself or at other nearby resorts, and in Cala Mayor go to the beach.

Palace Marivent - royal residence

The palace Mariwen , which serves as a summer residence for the family of Spanish monarchs, is also nearby. If before it could only be inspected from the outside (inside very rarely), then from August 2015, by order of King Philip VI, everyone can admire the gardens of the palace - of course, at a time when the royal family do not rest. Most often monarchs spend August in Marivente, but sometimes - and Easter holidays, and other holidays.

Excursions

Since the Cala Mayor is very close to Palma, all the sights of the capital are at the services of the holiday resort. And from Palma you can go to any part of the island. Therefore, the Cala Mayor is suitable for lovers of a relaxing holiday, and for those who want to see as much as possible during the holiday. You can drive by yourself - or take advantage of the offers of the hotel in which you will stay, as each hotel in the resort offers a whole "menu" of various trips and excursions, including throughout the island.

Shopping in the resort

Despite the proximity to Palma, where, in theory, tourists are supposed to go shopping , there are enough stores and shops in Cala Mayor. Most of them open at 10 am, close in the afternoon for a siesta - from 13-00 to 17-00, - and then work until late at night. Here you can buy both traditional tourist souvenirs - for example, local ceramics (including Siouilles - a clay whistle in the form of a horse or a Majorcan in national clothes), embroidery, other knick-knacks, and the famous Majorcan artificial pearls and high-quality leather shoes. At the resort there are also fair-sales, where you can buy all the same - only more cheaply.
