Polyps in the urethra in women occur more often than in men. This is due to the structural features of the organ - in women, the urethra is a short, five-centimeter tube lined with epithelium, the pathological growth of which leads to polyposis.
Causes of polyps in the urethra in women
Reliably, the causes of urethral polyps in women are not known. Presumably this process is influenced by:
- chronic inflammation in the urethra;
- hormonal problems;
- trauma to the mucous urethra;
- circulatory disorders in this zone.
Polyps are most often localized at the outer orifice of the urethra along the posterior wall of the ureter, where mixed urothelial cells are prone to proliferation.
Symptoms of polyps in the urethra in women
Polyps in the urethra can be manifested by the following complaints:
- burning and itching in the urethra at rest;
- increased pain at the time of emptying;
- frequent urge to go to the toilet;
- difficulty urinating when narrowing the lumen of the canal;
- impossibility to pee if a large polyp blocked the urethral tube;
- bloody discharge from the urethra after sexual intercourse, caused by trauma to the polyp.
If such symptoms occur, you should contact the urologist to determine their causes. If the polyp is close to the external opening of the urethra, the doctor will noticeably see it visually. Deeper tumors can be detected with the help of urethroscopy - the introduction of an endoscope at the canal and examination of its mucosa from the inside.
The polyps found are necessarily excised immediately, in the process of urethrocystoscopy or, if possible, the procedure of electrocoagulation of a benign tumor with subsequent examination of its tissue for the presence of cancer cells.
