The city of San Fernando in Trinidad and Tobago , snugly located on the shore of the incredibly beautiful Caribbean Sea, is an industrial settlement, but which is increasingly visited by tourists, because it creates a suitable infrastructure for recreation.
History and modern realities
The name of the city is immortalized by the Spanish prince Fernando, and the first mention of the settlement in these places dates back to 1595. It was then that the Spanish navigators who landed on the coast of the island of Trinidad, created a small town near the village of Aborigines.
The town was developing rapidly - first of all it was promoted by sea trade and a small shipyard created for the repair and restoration of ships damaged in sea storms during a long trip from Spain.
Today the city, like several centuries ago, is oriented towards industry and agriculture - here it functions:
- oil refining enterprises;
- sugar factory.
San Fernando has not been in demand for a long time among tourists, however, in recent years, more and more travelers have come here who want to enjoy incredible architecture.

Particularly among the buildings stands out a colorful structure called the Carib-House, which is more than two hundred years old.
Lake Pitch-Lake , mentioned above, is located very close to the city and is famous for producing asphalt. The reason for this is that the oil layers are too close to the surface of the earth - because the temperature is too high, and extremely high pressure, the oil turns into a real asphalt, quality and durable.
