Plum is one of the most common fruit trees in our region. It is grown on a par with apple, pear, apricot, cherry. When planning a plum planting, select the best varieties for growing in your area.
The best varieties of red plum
The optimal choice for planting in the middle band is the red plum of one of the following varieties:
- "Mirabel is red" with small oval fruits. The variety is suitable for processing, and for fresh consumption;
- Chinese plum "Red Ball" - softer and juicy in comparison with domestic varieties. But keep in mind that such a sink for good fruiting needs a "partner" - planted near a plum or plum;
- fruits of the variety "Joy" have a dark red color and a pleasant sweet and sour taste. The tree is winter-hardy, has an average maturity period;
- "Soviet-style Soviet culture" is grown mainly in the Central Black Earth region. This variety is characterized by high yield, resistance to disease, winter hardiness. Bone free, easily removed;

The yellow plum is no less popular in our gardens:
- "Alyonushka" has large fruits and a beautiful yellow-red color and a pleasant taste, however the yield of this variety is not high, and there are few fruits on the tree;
- wood varieties "Vetraz" sprawling and winter-hardy, bear fruit begins 4-5 years after planting. The fruits are small, sour-sweet, ripen in early August;
- Plum variety "Morning" is a tall tree with an average maturity. Yellow-pink fruits are ovoid in shape and sour-sweet juicy pulp;
- late plum "Stakhanovka" has a round crown with a lot of overgrown branches. Green-yellow fruits with blush have a wax coating, a small bone. The variety is not exacting for care, wintering;
- "Minskaya" - yellow-white plum with juicy and tender flesh. It is often planted on a plum. This is a self-fruit variety with large fruits.
Best sorts of plums for prunes
In order to make prunes at home, it is also important to choose the right kind:
- "Hungarian Kuban" with a sugary and dense pulp, which is not afraid of transportation and storage;
- the variety "Stanley" has very large fruits, greenish flesh and dark purple peel. The variety is partly self-fertilized, winter-hardy, but unstable to moniliose;
- "Sochinskaya Jubilee" - not too fruitful and not resistant to disease variety, but prunes from it has an unsurpassed taste.
