Transplanting grapes in autumn

Grapes refers to those plants, which due to their taste properties have long been fond of summer residents and owners of private houses. Care of the grapes is so simple that you can see it at each farmstead. However, from time to time, the plant needs a transplant. Can I transplant the grapes in the fall? It is possible, and even more: it is best to transplant the grapes in autumn, when the plant has thrown off the leaves. It is necessary to have time before the first night frosts, because the root system of grapes differs fragility and sensitivity to damage.

Transplant rules

So, with that, when it is possible to transplant grapes, were defined. It's time to procure the necessary material and inventory. To properly transplant an adult bush of grapes, as a rule, only a shovel with a pruner, clay, manure and fertilizers (humus, potassium salt and superphosphate ) is required.

The main rule when transplanting an adult bush is to ensure the safety of its roots, as well as heels and an underground stem, so it is necessary to work with a shovel very carefully. Saplings before planting are cut into two or three eyes, and the heel roots are shortened by 15-20 centimeters. If they are not long enough, then pruning is not needed. Updating the slice will suffice. After this, the grape roots should be treated with clay-manure mixture. To do this, one part of the clay is mixed with two parts of cow dung and water is brought to the consistency of sour cream.

Place where the grapes will grow, prepare in advance. Remove the trash, weed out the weeds and dig well. After that, for each cut, prepare a pit 50x50 centimeters deep about 65 centimeters. In each hole you can make humus, potassium salt and superphosphate. Fertilizers should be mixed with the soil. Between two adjacent holes the distance should not be less than two meters. The maximum distance and layout of the location of the grape bushes depends on the degree of soil fertility, such as the formation of bushes and varietal features. If the grapes transplant time falls in the spring, then the pit should be treated with boiling water with the addition of potassium permanganate. With this dark red solution you decontaminate the soil.

Remember, the heel roots when planting should cover the ground, and for this, in the pit it is necessary to make a small hillock-elevation. Hold the bush, fill the pit with earth to the roots, which must be straightened. After compacting the soil, each bush should be watered abundantly. When the water has absorbed, pour the earth and pour again. On the surface should leave only knots shoots with four kidneys. In this case, the upper eye should be sprinkled with earth by five centimeters. Further, fill the vine with earth, so that the hill formed around it should be at least eight centimeters high.

All that remains to do is once a week to water the transplanted vine bushes so that the water reaches their heel roots.

If with the fact whether it is possible to transplant an adult bush of grapes, everything is clear, we will consider one more variant of transplantation - cuttings.

Transplanting grapes by cuttings

To plant grape cuttings in spring, they should be harvested in autumn when pruning old adult shrubs. To do this, mature one-year shoots with a thickness of about 10 millimeters are suitable. Immediately add them to the ground and sprinkle a 15-centimeter layer of sand. In February, we take out, cut off all the kidneys, leaving three on each cuttings, and soak them in water with the addition of a growth regulator. The shank will be ready for planting in a container with ground, if a light green liquid is released at the cut when pressed.

As a substrate, it is best to use a mixture of turf ground (1 part), humus (1.5 parts), sand (0.5 part) and sawdust (1 part). Fill the mixture with a container, place a seedling in it and water it abundantly. Remember, grafting with grafts requires good drainage so that the water does not stagnate! In the spring, the seedling will be ready for planting on the open ground.
