Ultrasound of the intestine

Today, professionals have already found a more accurate alternative to diagnosing with ultrasound, and yet it is impossible to underestimate this type of research. Ultrasound makes it possible to determine such changes that have occurred in the body, which no other instrument can detect. Ultrasound of the intestine is one of the modern methods of research. Conduct it began relatively recently, but the method has already managed to prove itself.

What does the intestinal ultrasound show?

Ultrasound of the intestine is considered one of the most informative methods for diagnosing the organ. This is absolutely safe and what is most pleasant for many patients is a painless examination.

To an uninformed person the result of ultrasound, of course, will seem completely incomprehensible, but the specialist will be able to identify many diseases from the ultrasound portrait of the organ. This examination accurately identifies all inflammatory and functional abnormalities in the intestine.

Ultrasound of the intestine accurately identifies Crohn's disease and accurately determines the cyst.

The study helps to distinguish the inflamed appendix from a healthy one. The fact is that some of the symptoms of acute appendicitis are easily confused with other diseases. Ultrasound is able to reliably explain the situation.

Ultrasound can easily detect a benign or malignant tumor. Even the most inconspicuous speck on the screen can be a thickening, indicative of oncology. If suspicions for bowel cancer after ultrasound are assigned additional examinations. Ultrasound is considered to be the first effective study that can reveal suspicions of cancerous tumors.

How is ultrasound done in the small and large intestine?

The procedure is completely intrepid (well, not worse than any other ultrasound, so sure). During the examination, the patient will need to lie down on his back and then turn over on the right and left side after a specialist's command.

To be able to detect changes in the intestine visually, a small amount of liquid is introduced into it. This is perhaps the most unpleasant stage of the procedure: a thin tube-catheter is inserted into the rectum. Through this tube into the intestine, a special liquid enters the ultrasound. The latter is a kind of contrast.

As a result of the procedure, three groups of assessments of the state of the intestine are obtained:

  1. The first is done before the liquid enters the organ.
  2. The intestines, filled with contrast, necessarily ring.
  3. Final assessments are obtained after all liquid from the organ is removed.

Although the intestinal loops on ultrasound are not always visible, this type of research is popular. All due to the fact that the survey is conducted on the most problematic and painful site. That is, the procedure can be considered sighting, and accordingly, it takes up a minimum of time and almost immediately detects a painful focus.

Preparation for ultrasound of the intestine

In order for the study to be reliable, it is necessary to follow all the rules of preparation. Before the ultrasound of the intestine, you must adhere to a special diet. It is not recommended to eat legumes and vegetables rich in fiber. It should be discarded carbonated drinks, confectionery, rye and baked bakery products.

For a more effective cleaning of the intestine, Fortrans or other effective laxatives are prescribed. And directly on the day of the study, you can make a cleansing enema. If ultrasound is scheduled for the morning, the last time you need to eat the day before no later than six. If the examination is done after lunch, the patient is allowed a light breakfast.
