Number of amniotic fluid by week
Depending on the period of pregnancy, the level of fluid surrounding the baby changes. An approximate determination of their volume is made during a woman's examination, which she must take regularly. To do this, measure the circumference of the abdomen, the height of the standing of the bottom of the uterus.
In some cases, for the production of measurement, amniascopy is performed - examination of the fetal bladder through the cervix. In rare cases, an amniocentesis is also prescribed - the removal of water from the fetal bladder through a puncture in the abdomen.
With the help of ultrasound diagnosis, it is also possible to accurately determine whether pregnancy progresses normally - the doctor calculates the amniotic fluid index (IOL). The IJF of the amniotic fluid varies, depending on the gestational age and is measured in milliliters. Below is the corresponding table:
Pregnancy in weeks | Volume in milliliters (minimum and maximum values) |
---|---|
16 | 73-201 |
18 | 80-220 |
20 | 86-230 |
22 | 89-235 |
24 | 90-238 |
26th | 89-242 |
28 | 86-249 |
thirty | 82-258 |
32 | 77-269 |
34 | 72-278 |
36 | 68-279 |
38 | 65-269 |
40 | 63-240 |
42 | 63-192 |
As you can see, this indicator increases to 26 weeks of pregnancy and decreases as the delivery approaches.
Deviations from the normal amount of amniotic fluid
A large number of amniotic fluid is called polyhydramnios. This is a serious threat to the life and health of the baby, because he has too much room for free movement, because of which the cord can be wound around his neck. In addition, he may take a wrong position before childbirth, which in such cases is often premature.
A small amount of amniotic fluid is called low water. It is dangerous because it leads to squeezing both the baby and the umbilical cord, to the child's lagging behind in development, to the dryness of his skin. In this case, various defects of the musculoskeletal system may occur.
