Despite its popularity and presence in almost every home medicine cabinet, it is not a panacea and it does not help in all cases.
But-shpa - composition and form of release
The drug is available in tablets and as a solution for intravenous and intramuscular injections.
Tablets No-shpy are small, yellow, for sale come in blisters or plastic bottles of 20, 24, 60 or 100 pieces per pack. One tablet contains 40 mg of drotaverine hydrochloride, as well as auxiliary substances:
- magnesium stearate - 3 mg;
- talcum - 4 mg;
- povidone - 6 mg;
- corn starch - 35 mg;
- lactose monohydrate - 52 mg.
Solution for injection - a transparent, yellowish-green hue, is available in ampoules of 2 ml. One ampoule contains:
- drotaverina hydrochloride 40 mg;
- sodium disulfide - 2 mg;
- ethanol 132 mg;
- water for injections.
With the introduction of the drug intravenously, the effect of the effect appears after 4-5 minutes, and the maximum effect occurs within 30 minutes. When using no-shpa in tablets, the drug starts to act after 15-20 minutes, and the maximum concentration of the drug in the blood is observed after 45-60 minutes.
But-shpa - indications for use
First of all, it should be noted that No-shpa refers not to analgesics, but to antispasmodics. Drotaverin, which is the main active substance of the drug, reduces the tone of smooth muscles, reduces the flow of calcium ions into cells, dilates the vessels. At the same time, the drug does not affect the vegetative and central nervous system.
Therefore, the use of No-shpa is effective for pains that can be caused by spasms and constriction of vessels such as menstrual, often headaches, but, for example, there will be no effect with toothache, and it is better to take an analgesic.
To cases in which the applications of No-shpa are shown, include:

- menstrual pain;
- pain in the kidneys, bile, bladder;
- cystitis ;
- spastic constipation;
- biliary and renal colic (no-shpa is used in ampoules, as injections);
- cholecystitis , gastroduodenitis;
- in the complex therapy of gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer.
Concerning the use of No-shpa during pregnancy, the views of doctors differ. In some European countries, the use of this drug in pregnancy is contraindicated. On the other hand, the likelihood of harm to the child is not clinically proven, and the drug showed high efficacy in normalizing the tone of the uterus. Therefore, in this case, the expediency of using no-shpa can only be established by a doctor.
In addition to these diseases, the use of No-shpa together with analgin is one of the most common ways to reduce body temperature in extreme heat.
How to take No-shpu?
Adults take the drug 1-2 tablets 2-3 times a day. The daily dose should not exceed 6 tablets (40 mg each). For children under 6 years, the daily dose is from 1 to 3 tablets, divided into 2-4 admission, at the age of 6 years - up to 4 tablets per day.
Intramuscular and intravenous administration of the drug is usually performed by a doctor, if there are appropriate indications, but the maximum allowable dosages are preserved (not more than 80 mg of active substance per dose).
With intravenous administration of the drug side effects are possible, so the patient must always lie during the injection and some time after it.
