Lamp for highlighting seedlings

Additional highlighting of seedlings is an extremely important condition for the successful cultivation of young plants. With low illumination in plants, the process of photosynthesis is lethargic, so that the seedlings grow slowly and often get sick. However, it is important to choose the correct lamp for seedling lighting. Consider the options available today to understand what will work best.

What kind of lamp is needed to illuminate seedlings?

Lamps used for seedling seedlings are diverse. The main ones are represented by the following types:

  1. The backlighting of seedlings by daylight mercury lamps is not sufficiently effective, since the lamps give white light, which is not so important for plants. They need more red and purple part of the spectrum, which can not be provided by daylight lamps.
  2. The backlighting of seedlings with a conventional incandescent lamp is not only ineffective for seedling, but also uneconomical in terms of electricity consumption. Such lamps only convert 5% of their energy into light, the rest into thermal radiation. From this seedling is stretched, burns, dries.
  3. Sodium lamps of domestic production "Relfax" can be used for seedlings. Most preferable are such varieties as DNaZ, DNaT, DRiZ and their combinations to obtain the full spectrum. Advantages of sodium lamps in their durability, high efficiency, stable light flux. Disadvantages - high cost and the need for a regulatory installation.
  4. Fluorescent lamp - the illumination of seedlings by them is quite common. However, it must be taken into account that they are not powerful enough for this purpose, moreover, there are not enough red waves in their spectrum. For highlighting seedlings with such lamps, they should be placed at a height of 15-30 cm, and for lighting a sill meter with seedlings 2 lamps of 40 W each will be needed.
  5. Phytolamp (photoluminescent lamp) - eco-friendly, effective for seedling, durable, compact and safe. However, it emits a lilac-pink glow, which irritates the eyes of a person, causes headaches. Therefore, it is not recommended to use such lamps without reflectors.
  6. LED lamps for highlighting seedlings - for today are the best option, because by combining white, red and blue LEDs, you can make the lighting as efficient as possible. The lamps themselves are durable, have high efficiency, and the spectrum of the system is easily adjusted at different stages of seedling growth.
