Including, sometimes there is a situation when according to the results of this analysis the child has lymphocytes increased and segmented or stab neutrophils are lowered. In practice, we are always talking about segmented neutrophils, since the number of these cells is much higher than the stab neutrophils. Let's figure out what such deviations may indicate.
What does the increased lymphocyte count mean?
Lymphocytes are white blood cells from the genus of leukocytes. They are responsible for maintaining immunity and producing antibodies to protect the body in various situations. The increased content of these cells may indicate:
- any acute viral infection;
- lymphocytic leukemia;
- lymphosarcoma;
- tuberculosis;
- hyperthyroidism.
Causes of a decreased level of neutrophils
In turn, neutrophils are also cells of the circulatory system, the main task of which is to protect the body from various infections. This kind of cells can live from one hour to several days, depending on whether an active inflammatory process develops in the human body.
The reduced content of neutrophils in a baby can be observed with:
- viral infections;
- severe inflammatory processes;
- anemia;
- Effects of serious drugs, such as chemo- or radiation therapy.
If the lymphocytes are elevated in the blood of the child and the neutrophils are lowered and, simultaneously, eosinophils are raised, there is no doubt that the baby has a viral or bacterial infection. It is necessary to consult with a doctor as soon as possible to identify a foci of infection. In the future, the child will have to undergo a course of treatment under the supervision of a doctor.
