Mavrovo National Park

The area of ​​the Mavrovo National Park totals 730.9 km², which makes it the third largest park in the republic (two more - Pelister and Galicica ). The vast territory of Mavrovo has been under the protection of local authorities since 1948. The national park is popular with medium-altitude mountain ranges, which are completely or partially located on its territory. Deshat, Korab, Bistra, Shar are very popular in the tourist environment and annually meet the fans of winter sports from different parts of the country and the world. The boundaries of the park are dotted with caves, river valleys, karst formations and waterfalls. The territory of the Mavrovo National Park is covered with forests, in which beech grows most often. The flora of the park is rich and diverse, many plants are under protection, since they are considered rare or disappearing, others are found only in Mavrovo and nowhere else.

The fauna of the national park is also very diverse. For example, there are more than 140 species of birds, 12 species of reptiles, 11 species of amphibians, 38 species of mammals. And many species of animals were brought from other countries and successfully adapted by the park's workers to local climatic conditions.

The location of Mavrovo, its landscapes and landscapes make the National Park one of the most amazing places in Macedonia . The huge territory of the park is divided by nature itself into zones, each of which has its own unique features and charm.

Mountain ranges with 52 peaks, deep canyons and canyons will be of interest to fans of extreme sports and rock climbing. How to get there?

To get to the Mavrovo National Park is convenient, both from the capital of the republic , and from the nearby city of Ohrid . In both directions, comfortable buses run. And you can also use the services of railway transport, sitting down, on the train to Taomiste station, which is 10 kilometers from the park, then take a taxi.
