Who of the happy owners of a private house or villa does not dream of a beautiful well-kept flower garden near his home? We declare authoritatively that there are very few such people. But beauty lovers are often stopped by the lack of information about growing flowers in the open ground. We will gladly fill this gap and devote an article to the open-ground floriculture.
Flowers for open ground
For open ground, there are many single and perennials that can tolerate the vicissitudes of the Russian climate. Here are some of them:
- adonis summer, popularly known as "coal in fire" - a beautifully flowering cold-resistant plant up to 40 cm high;
- arctitis - perennial, grown as an annual, blooming throughout the summer;
- cornflower field - a beautiful plant with a flower color from gently pink to blue;
- Convolvulus - a cold-resistant plant with large purple or pink flowers;
- delphinium of the field - annual up to 120 cm tall with lush inflorescences of various colors;
- calendula - unpretentious annual, in need of periodic top dressing;
- Lobularia marine, also known as "borachok" - a short plant with fluffy inflorescences, issuing a pleasant aroma.
Sowing flowers in the open ground
By sowing flowers in the open ground, you can start at the end of April and early May and continue all summer. Specific terms depend on the resistance of the selected plant to the cold and the rate of growth. In any case, the preparation of a flower bed for sowing flowers must begin in the fall - dig and fertilize. In the spring, it remains only to loosen up a little and straighten the ground with pitchforks. After that, in the superficial layer of our flower garden, grooves are made for sowing small seeds or nests for larger ones. Their depth should be twice the diameter of the grain. Sow the seeds of flowers evenly, for which the smallest of them are mixed with clean sand. After the sowing is finished, the furrows are covered with earth
Planting flowers in the open ground
With the advent of May, it is time for planting seedlings of flowers in the open ground. Already in the first decade, you can plant cloves, lemon, cineraria and sweet peas. At the end of the third week, it is possible to plant petunia seedlings, kohia, ornamental cabbage, portolac, fragrant tobacco, rudbeckia, salvia and other summer crops in the open ground. Planting seedlings is considered to be true if the plant is not removed from the ground with a little effort. After planting, the soil around the seedlings must be carefully wrapped up - this will help plants to save moisture and protect them from night frosts.
