Pregnancy test with iodine

To determine the presence or absence of pregnancy today can, practically from the second week of pregnancy. To do this, there are many ways: pharmacy tests of several types, checking the level of hCG in the laboratory, ultrasound diagnosis and examination of a gynecologist. All these methods can fairly accurately determine whether a woman is pregnant.

But even before the invention of all the above methods, future mothers wanted to know as soon as possible whether they got pregnant. And for this different national home methods were used - with the help of soda, with a wedding ring or the determination of pregnancy by iodine.

The reliability of these methods raises some doubts, because those who tried to check for pregnancy with iodine, note that this is not a 100% guarantee. And whether it is necessary to use this method from the Stone Age, when there are more reliable and informative methods.

But the nature of female curiosity is simply unique, and many, without waiting for a pharmacy test, can make such a simple experiment at any time at home. After all, everyone in the arsenal has such a means of essential necessity as iodine, which means that it can be used to check the presence of pregnancy.

How to determine pregnancy by iodine?

There are two different ways to determine pregnancy by iodine. In order to get as close to the truth as possible, it is necessary to do both. For this almost mystical ritual, we need the following:

  1. The main ingredient is iodine
  2. Clean plastic or glass cup
  3. A conventional pipette
  4. Strip of white paper
  5. Morning urine of the alleged pregnant woman

As for the usual pharmacy tests, the urine used should preferably be collected in the morning, immediately after awakening. Then the concentration of necessary substances in it will be maximal and, accordingly, the result will be more accurate than with urine taken at another time of day.

How to test pregnancy with iodine - method # 1

The urine is collected in a clean container and one or two drops of iodine should be dripped into it using a pipette. But it should be done carefully, so that the drop slowly sinks to the surface, and not gurgled sharply. This can be achieved by lifting the pipette almost to the surface of the liquid or by dropping it onto the wall of the glass.

The pregnancy test with iodine will be positive if the droplet does not spread on the surface and remains unchanged, or when it immediately sinks to the bottom, and then floats again. When we see the picture, as the drop spread over the entire surface, and possibly mixed with urine, then there is no pregnancy.

How to recognize pregnancy with iodine - method # 2

For another method, we need a piece of plain white paper. A sheet from a notebook does not work for this, because it already used printing ink for applying cells and lines. A thin album or a sheet for the printer will be just right.

This piece of our peculiar litmus paper is saturated with morning urine. After that, again, using a pipette, drip onto the soaked paper one or two drops of chemical reagent, in our case iodine. Here begins the most interesting - if the color of the drop has changed and become lilac or even purple, then the probability of pregnancy is very high. Well, when the stain from iodine is brown, black or blue, then most likely you are not pregnant.

When identifying colors, you should be careful, because the variations of blue-violet shades are many and can be slightly confused with their definition. The final diagnosis - pregnant or not, remains for the doctor, who will confirm it with the help of ultrasound and an analysis on the hormone of pregnancy. Whether to believe a test done with the help of iodine is your business, because sometimes miracles happen.
