Rocks Twelve Apostles

Rocks "Twelve Apostles" are located on the Pacific coast and are part of the National Park Port Campbell, which is located in the Australian state of Victoria. Despite the fact that the rocks are called "12 apostles", there are actually only 8. Until 2005 there were 9 of them, in that year one of the most beautiful arches, the Island Archway, collapsed. After that, many observation platforms were closed, as they feared new landslides. Therefore, today they can be admired only from the road or from a helicopter on one of the excursions. If you still get the courage and want to admire the cliffs from prohibited places, then know that the penalty for this is $ 300.

What to see?

Limestone cliffs that have become legendary are located on the Great Ocean Road, which in itself is a landmark. On the way to the "Twelve Apostles" you will see many beautiful landscapes that will remain in your memory for a long time. The rocks themselves are located in an ideal location - on the south-east coast. Two thousand years ago this beauty from people was hidden by water, but then she opened it to us. And the wind and the waves have done their job - weathered limestone cliffs and made from them real works of art, beautiful arches, pillars and grottos. They are framed by white sands, which are washed by the Pacific waters.

Along the Great Ocean Road are placed signs that report very mournful facts, namely in what place how many ships sank. A total of 50 such plates, and the ships that sank near the southeast coast, there were more than 700. But about 200 were discovered, so these places are not only full of tragic, but mysterious stories.

Pigs and pigs

Not many people know that the first name of the cliffs was "Pigs and Pigs". The name "12 apostles" was a tourist attraction in order to attract tourists. But the first name was given because of the appearance of the rocks, since they represented one island and nine detached rocks. This comic name did not reveal all the beauty of the rocks and did not make the place popular, so foreign tourists did not willingly go to admire the "piggy" cliffs, but when the name appeared with religious motives, the tourists considered it obligatory to visit the "Twelve Apostles". And even without finding anything to do with the name, they still remained satisfied with what they saw. It's an incredibly beautiful place.

Where is?

To reach the "Twelve Apostles" is possible only on the Great Ocean Road . At the same time, if it is possible to do it better on your own or rented car, to make stops during the journey, near the signs or on viewing platforms.
