The umbilical cord case is found in 25-30% of pregnant women. The essence of it lies in the fact that around the neck, body or limbs of the fetal cord is twisted as a loop, sometimes repeatedly entangling the body of a child. Modern medicine has learned to cope with such cases, and for the most part the births with cord wrapping are successful. Consider the types of umbilical cord entanglement, its causes, diagnostics and consequences.
There are several variants of umbilical cord entwine:
- single - when the umbilical cord once wraps the neck of the fetus;
- double or multiple - several turns of umbilical cord around the neck;
- the hanging only around the neck of the fruit is an isolated loop;
- combined loop - the umbilical cord wraps around the body and / or limbs of the future baby;
- tight cord with umbilical cord;
- weak accent.
An umbilical cord may have several causes:
- hypoxia or oxygen starvation of the fetus - causes an active intrauterine movement of the unborn child, because of what is possible its entanglement by the umbilical cord;
- increased content of adrenaline in the mother's blood, which also contributes to increased fetal activity and, as a consequence, cord cuffing;
- too long umbilical cord, more than 60 cm predisposes to fetal bump;
- polyhydramnios - in the presence of polyhydramnios the child has a lot of space for movement and a lot of opportunities to get confused in the surrounding umbilical cord.
Diagnosis of umbilical cord circumcision
At the moment, there are several methods of diagnosing umbilical cord entanglement:
- Ultrasound diagnosis - with the help of ultrasound it is possible to establish the presence of the umbilical cuff at the time of 17-18 weeks, and determine which accent is occurring - single, double or combined;
- CTG is a cardiotocography study in which the movements and palpitation of the fetus are recorded, according to which the presence of hypoxia and the possibility of umbilical cord entanglement are detected.
Umbilical cord treatment - consequences for the child
The ultimate, the most important issue that worries expectant mothers is the danger of cord cord entanglement, and what its consequences are. The most common and relatively harmless for a child is a single cord round the neck. In this case, when giving birth, the doctor can easily weaken the umbilical cord and remove it. The double entanglement of the umbilical cord is considered more dangerous, since its possible consequences are oxygen starvation and microtrauma of the cervical vertebrae. Children born with such a birth complication may be prone to headaches, increased pressure or hypotension, rapid fatigue.
A tight cord with the umbilical cord may have the same effects described above, but childbirth with such a twist can become more complicated asphyxia of the fetus, which threatens to stop the child's breathing. This is extremely rare, but in such cases obstetricians usually take
In general, it should be understood that when the cord is wrapped around the neck, the fetus suffers from hypoxia, but the effects of oxygen starvation do not manifest in all children and the degree of expression can also be different. For some babies, hampling with the umbilical cord does not affect their health in the future, for others it is fraught with vegetative-vascular dystonia, a violation of the general condition of the body. All these conditions are successfully treated, and if the correct regime of the day is observed, the child will grow strong and healthy.
