Vertebral hernia is one of the most dangerous diseases of the spine. Its causes are disturbed nutrition of intervertebral discs, loss of elasticity and thinning of their tissues, which is caused by diseases of the musculoskeletal system, traumas, lack of mobility, excessive physical exertion. In this case, the contents of the intervertebral disc exit into the lumen of the spinal canal, as a result of which the nerve endings are compressed.
Methods of treatment of vertebral hernia
Timely treatment of the vertebral hernia leads to recovery in 6 to 12 weeks. The main methods of conservative (non-surgical) treatment of vertebral hernia are:
- use of anti-inflammatory drugs, more often non-steroidal;
- taking pain medication;
- physiotherapeutic procedures;
- physiotherapy.
Surgical intervention may be required in severe, neglected cases. Operation, as a rule, is carried out by one of the methods:
- microsurgical removal of a hernia;
- endoscopic removal of a hernia.
After the operation, the patient can start physical work after 2 - 4 weeks.
Exercises for the treatment of vertebral hernia
With the help of a special, properly selected physical load, it is possible to activate muscles, strengthen ligaments, improve blood circulation, nutrition and metabolic processes in the affected area of the spine. As a result, complete or partial resolution of the hernia can occur. However, this will take a lot of time and hard work in therapeutic gymnastics.
Treatment of vertebral hernia by leeches
Hirudotherapy is a very effective method of treating vertebral hernia. Treatment with leeches is applicable even to chronic vertebral hernia (more than 2 years), as well as those patients who underwent spinal surgery. During the procedure of the leech, a number of biologically active substances are isolated that can dissolve fragments of the affected intervertebral disc. In addition, the enzymes introduced by leeches restore blood circulation and metabolism in the affected area, reduce inflammation, and have an immunostimulating effect. The course of treatment includes 10 to 12 procedures at intervals of three to four days.
