Every owner of a country plot knows the problem of combating weeds . When asked about what plants are called weeds, it can be answered that these are the plants that "settled" on the site other than those grown by the hosts of the crops.
Sources of occurrence of weed plants
Weeds can get into the ground in the following ways:
- weed seeds of weed plants;
- seed of poor quality;
- compost that has not been properly processed;
- the movement of seeds with the help of wind or animals.
Harm from weeds
Weed weed plants have a very harmful effect on cultivated crops, namely:
- reduce yield;
- release harmful substances into the soil;
- take a significant amount of nutrients and moisture in plants grown on the site;
- They create a shadow for crops and block their access to light;
- are a source of diseases for cultivated plants and the appearance of pests on the site.
But some types of weeds are able to benefit. So, the powerful roots of some species break the seals in the ground, promote the loosening of the soil. Due to deep penetration into the soil, the roots become available nutrients that are inaccessible to garden plants. Therefore, they are used as fertilizers.
Types of weed plants
Depending on the length of life, we distinguish such types of weeds:
- Young children . They multiply by seeds, and their life expectancy ranges from one season to two growing seasons. To juvenile weeds are the following groups: ephemerals, spring, winter annuals, biennial.
- Perennial . Such weeds can grow in one place for four years. They multiply by seeds or vegetatively. After the death of the terrestrial part of the plant, its root system continues to grow. Next year new stems grow from the roots.
Depending on the way we eat, the weeds are:
- Nonparasite . This group is the most numerous. Weeds develop independently and are not dependent on other plants.
- Semiparasitic . Partly eat from ground parts or roots of other plants.
- The parasitic . They lack the capacity for photosynthesis, and they feed on other plants, attaching themselves to their roots or stems.
