Irifrin is an ophthalmic drug of local action, which is widely used in the treatment of certain eye diseases. It is also used in preoperative preparation for surgical interventions on the eyeball and before carrying out some diagnostic eye examinations.
Composition and form of eye drops Irifrin
Active substance drops for the eyes of Irifrin is phenylephrine hydrochloride. Also in the composition of this drug includes a number of excipients: benzalkonium chloride, disodium edetate, sodium metabisulphide, sodium hydroxide, sodium hydrogen phosphate dihydrate, sodium dihydrogenphosphate anhydrous, sodium citrate dihydrate, citric acid and water for injection.
Eye drops Irifrin is a clear solution with a concentration of 2.5% or 10%. Available in plastic or glass bottles, can have a dropper dispenser included.
Indications for use Irifrin:
- iridocyclitis;
- glaucoma-cyclical crises;
- red eye syndrome;
- spasm of accommodation;
- true myopia in persons with a high visual load;
- diagnostic dilatation of the pupil in ophthalmoscopy and other diagnostic measures used to monitor the state of the posterior segment of the eye;
- performance of a provocative test in patients with a narrow profile of the anterior chamber of the eyeball and suspicion of a closed-angle glaucoma;
- diagnostic measures for the differentiation of conjunctival (superficial) and pericorneal (deep) injection of the eyeball;
- enlargement of the pupil with preoperative preparation for surgical and laser operations on the fundus.
Method of application and dosage of eye drops Irifrinum
According to the instructions for drops Irifrin, the dosage and the scheme of application of the drug depends on the indications and severity of the disease:
- When conducting ophthalmoscopy and diagnostic procedures - a single instillation of one drop of a 2.5% solution.
- In iridocyclitis and glaucoma-cyclical crisis - 2.5% or 10% solution is instilled in one drop at an interval of 8 hours, the duration of treatment - up to 10 days.
- With weak myopia, accommodation spasm in the period of increased visual load - 2.5% solution is injected one drop at a time.
- With the progression of myopia - instillation of 2.5% solution three times a day, one drop.
- With preoperative preparation - 10% solution is instilled once in one drop for half an hour - an hour before the operation.
The effect of drops of Irifrin occurs half a minute after penetration into the eye tissues and can last up to about seven hours. In addition to the dilatation of the pupil, there is an improvement in the outflow of intraocular fluid and narrowing of the conjunctival vessels. At the same time, the ability to focus the vision, for which the ciliary muscle is responsible, remains.
Contraindications to the preparation Irifrin:
- glaucoma (narrow-angle and closed-angle);
- impaired hemoglobin metabolism;
- hyperthyroidism;
- cardiovascular diseases;
- malfunctions of cardiovascular and brain vessels in elderly patients;
- pregnancy and the period of breastfeeding (with caution);
- hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.
Before using the drug, people wearing contact lenses should take them off. After instillation of the lens, you can dress after half an hour.
