Female circumcision

Everyone knows that Jews and Muslims make circumcision for boys, but not all are aware of the existence of female circumcision. Why do circumcision for girls, and that this is an inoffensive tribute to religion or barbarism, which poses a serious threat to a woman's health?

How do circumcision for women?

There are three types of circumcision that girls do.

  1. Pharaonic circumcision . This procedure consists in the complete removal of the clitoris, small labia and narrowing the entrance to the vagina. And the latter can be done so much that it will interfere with normal urination and outflow of menstrual blood. In addition, before the first wedding night, the girl again has to "lie down under the knife" - to expand the entrance to the vagina and sexual intercourse was possible. But after this operation, the skin loses its elasticity and therefore, when giving birth, a woman is given a cesarean section.
  2. Excision . The operation is similar to Pharaoh's circumcision, only in this case the entrance to the vagina does not narrow, the girl is removed by the labia and the clitoris.
  3. Sunna (partial circumcision) . The operation involves the partial removal of the skin fold around the clitoris - the hood. This kind of female circumcision is considered harmless, and many doctors are even recommended, because the clitoris as a result turns out to be open, which means it becomes more sensitive. This operation is often practiced in European countries. But in African countries (and ethnic communities around the world), for some reason, they prefer the first two types.

Why do circumcision for girls?

It is difficult to say why women are circumcised, it probably all depends on the country and culture. Although many immediately begin to blame religion, which generates brutal traditions and customs. It is not worth hurrying so, the religion of religion is different. For example, female circumcision is not obligatory in Islam, moreover, Muslim scholars called for the cessation of this barbarous practice, for in the Koran there is not a single word about the need for circumcision. Muslim scholars even made appeals to the authorities of all countries of the world, which set out requests for the prohibition of the work of female circumcision, because this procedure traumatizes the woman both physiologically and psychologically.

But why do women circumcise if religion has nothing to do with it?

  1. First of all, it should be said that in many African countries poor families do not have the opportunity to educate their children. Therefore, information about rites and traditions is transmitted verbally, which makes possible the appearance of various errors and prejudices. For example, female circumcision is done in Somalia, being sure that it is acceptable to God. And the girls, subjected to this procedure, are surprised to learn that religion does not require female circumcision. In the hadeeth ("Mu'jam at-Tabarani al-Awsat") there is only a mention (whose authenticity is not confirmed) of partial circumcision, where women are warned to "cut too much".
  2. Various prejudices play a role. For example, many parents believe that the girl who retains the clitoris will be dissolute. And to prevent this, the girl is circumcised. Also, many men who live in African countries, from childhood, were inspired by the idea that if a woman is not circumcised, she is depraved and can not become a good wife and mother. In addition, after the procedure of circumcision, the vagina loses the ability to stretch and after giving birth will not lose its shape, which provides the man more pleasure.
  3. In northern Nigeria and Mali, ethnic groups consider female genitals to be ugly and remove them for aesthetic reasons.

It turns out that full female circumcision is not only a dangerous procedure for health, but also an unjustified, meaningless tradition. After all, no logical explanation for this dangerous (often circumcision is carried out without observing basic sanitary standards - rusty scissors, lack of anesthesia, dirty hands, etc.) There is no operation, all the excuses are more like trying to show a woman her lower, compared to a man , position.
