How do babies see?

As newborn children see - a topic, of course, exciting young parents, because the vision of newborns is a lot of truthful and mythical information. Here are the main questions that concern the vision of small children and to which the research gave absolutely accurate answers.

When does the newborn baby begin to see?

Studies have shown that the baby sees in the womb of the mother - he perceives a bright light directed at the mother's abdomen. A newly born child sees everything around him blurred and vague, like a man emerging from darkness into the light.

How does the newborn see?

  1. He distinguishes between light and shadow, reacts to bright illumination by closing the peephole. The outline of people and objects the child sees approximately at a distance of 20-25 cm, the contours are indistinct, in the background everything is solid and gray.
  2. Unique is the ability of a newborn to distinguish persons who lean over him, from the environment. To focus his eyes and react to sounds he is still learning.
  3. Especially young mothers are interested in: do the newborns see and recognize their mother? The child sees the mother, of course, most often, but recognizes her by the smell and closeness of the chest in general gray tones. Gradually it passes, and by three months the baby can already clearly distinguish faces and objects, distinguishes mother and father from strangers and is able to concentrate their attention on the subject for about ten minutes.

What color does the newborn see?

Basically everything is seen by the kid in a gray background, but it is known that from the very first days he discerns a bright red color and shiny objects. Then a yellow color is added and such a child sees the world for up to 2-3 months. Later in 4-5 months, he will gradually begin to distinguish between blue and green colors.

It is also widely believed that newborns see everything upside down. However, this is not true. Indeed, the image on the retina is turned according to the laws of optics, but the newborn has not yet developed a visual analyzer and he basically does not see anything. The analyzer of vision and the structure of the eye develop simultaneously and, when the baby starts to see, he sees everything correctly.
