S-shaped scoliosis

Scoliosis is a congenital or acquired disease of the musculoskeletal system when there is a curvature of the spine in various directions. S-shaped called scoliosis, in which there are two arcs of bending: the main and compensatory. The main arc is usually formed as a result of an incorrect load on the spinal column, as a result of prolonged stay in an unnatural position, work for an inappropriate growth table, etc., most often at school age. In addition, the development of scoliosis can cause injuries and overweight.

Compensation arc with a bend in the opposite direction is usually formed later, as an attempt of the body to return to a stable position. With s-shaped scoliosis, the curvatures are usually smooth and are more often located in different parts of the spine: if the main arc with the right bend is formed in the thoracic spine, then eventually it is expected to develop a compensatory arc with a left flexure in the lumbar spine.

Degrees of s-shaped scoliosis

The disease is divided into 4 degrees, depending on the stage of curvature more pronounced of the arcs, which for s-shaped scoliosis usually falls on the thoracic spine:

Beginning with the second stage of the disease, in addition to the outwardly visible asymmetry of the figure, scoliosis can cause painful sensations associated with squeezing the nerve roots in the spine. At later stages, deformation of the spine leads to squeezing of the internal organs, disruption of blood circulation and eventually to the development of various pathologies.

How to treat s-shaped scoliosis?

The conservative methods of treatment of s-shaped scoliosis include:

Treatment of s-shaped scoliosis with conservative methods is possible only in the early stages. In the third and fourth stages of the disease, it is treated only surgically.
