Self-affirmation

Quite often there are cases when a person humiliates, offends other people in an attempt to assert themselves, belittling others, he feels more significant. It looks disgusting, but really the need for self-assertion is always bad, maybe this desire is quite natural?

Motives for self-assertion

In fact, the need for self-assertion is one of the most important needs that stimulate human behavior. It manifests itself in the aspirations of a person to receive recognition at various levels - professional, social and personal. Thus, the motive for self-affirmation can be the desire to improve one's financial position, gain authority, and make a successful career.

Self-affirmation is also an important tool for self-knowledge. Since self-affirming, we interact with surrounding personalities, and this allows us to realize our position in society, to understand our value, and through reflection we recognize ourselves from within - we learn more about our desires and possibilities.

And, of course, we must not forget about the problem of self-affirmation of the individual in the team, this process is necessary for the occupation of his own niche, because every person at work (during training) has a certain status. The methods of such self-affirmation are chosen by everyone - due to the humiliation of others, thanks to their professional skills or personal charm. That is, the very desire to consolidate and determine one's position in society is quite natural and can not be condemned, but here are ways to achieve this goal as much as they can - self-satisfied brawlers do not like anyone, especially if that is the immediate boss.

Self-affirmation at the expense of others

What's easier: to develop yourself and get the approval and recognition of colleagues and friends or especially not to bother about it and just humiliate other people, saying that they do not understand anything in life, but how do you know correctly only you? Obviously, the second method is easier, you do not need to apply any special efforts, the main thing is to believe in your own right. Often men resort to this method of self-assertion, perhaps because of their constant desire to fight and win.

But do not think that such people are bad in their nature, because most often the reason for the development of this behavior is lack of support and love in childhood, long-standing resentments, a sense of fear of people, psychological violence provided by close people, educators and teachers. Such people often behave aggressively, look very confident, but it's just a mask, under which lies a frightened person who is very lacking in warmth and care. People who try to self-affirm in this way are notorious, they feel their inferiority and are afraid to enter into open confrontation with other people, all they have the courage to rise above a person by humiliating him. The trouble is that in the field of view of such people are those who are unable to protect themselves from bullying, on strong personalities they usually do not dare to attack.

Self-assertion is often seen as a protective mechanism that should protect a person from traumatic situations. If a person lacks some component of self-esteem, then there is an inflated sense of self-superiority. A man tries to assert himself in order to balance his shortcomings. Therefore, such people need help and a friendly attitude, because their inability to assert themselves without belittling other people, makes them unhappy, does not allow them to fully reveal their potential.
