Walnuts for breastfeeding

"To achieve the goal, all means are good!". This slogan is often guided by newly mummies, trying by any means to preserve lactation in the fight for breast milk - the most valuable and healthy food for the baby in the first months of his life. In addition, not having time to leave the maternity hospital yet, but, quite possibly, while there, a lonely pond of nurses who are worried about the satiety of the "helpers" from the side appears at the nursing mother. What not only will be advised: all sorts of herbal infusions and tinctures, non-alcoholic beer, liters of black and green tea with milk, and more caloric - condensed, etc. Undoubtedly, some funds have the right to exist, but not at the stage of becoming lactation. Take, for example, walnuts with breastfeeding, which, in the opinion of many, have a lactogenic effect.

Walnut nursing mom: benefit or harm?

Imagine a situation, a benevolent mother or mother-in-law brings a pound of walnuts to her maternity hospital for a nursing mother who on the eve "hinted" about the vagaries of the newly born baby. Naturally, the first thing that comes to mind: "The child is hungry!". Having listened to the reasoned recommendations of the relatives and tested for years and despite the rather "dangerous" period of milk stay, which requires a quick response in order to avoid problems with the breast and for the possibility of ensuring a normal lactation process in the future, the young mother eats a few handfuls of a product very useful for mother's milk . And what do we end up with? In the best case, lactostasis (milk stasis) in the mother, an allergic reaction, colic or constipation in the baby, in the worst mastitis of the breast, at which breastfeeding will have to stop for a while.

Why is this happening? First, nuts with breastfeeding, contrary to the widely known opinion of an increase in the fat content of milk, increase its viscosity. This is due to changes in the composition of fats that come with nuts in the mother's body. And increased viscosity, in turn, does not allow milk to move normally along the ducts of the mammary glands. As a result of this, due to the constant presence of milk and the difficulty of "sucking" it out of the baby's chest, it stagnates and a painful compaction in the chest with reddening of the skin around it, which is often accompanied by an increase in body temperature to 39 degrees. If you do not respond in time to such a condition of the nursing mother, purulent mastitis occurs, which is often resolved surgically. Secondly, nuts, including lactation, belong to the group of allergen products. This applies mainly to fried walnuts, when heat-treated, specific oils are emitted. They also provoke an allergic reaction, which is extremely undesirable for either the mother or the baby.

So is it possible to nurse the walnuts in general?

The consequences described above of the consumption of walnuts by nursing people can arise only if they are overeated. Taking in food within reasonable limits, recommended by doctors - up to 3 cores a day, walnuts for lactation will be very useful. And not even because they increase the amount of milk, by the way, this "people's" fact has not been proved by science, but thanks to the nutrients and microcells contained in them in large quantities.

Nuts for nursing are an excellent source of the vegetable protein they need. This product is high in calories, while the amount of carbohydrates is small. The vitamin composition of walnuts is also impressive: almost all the B vitamins, including folic acid, vitamin C, which, although in unripe fruit, are several times larger than in citrus or currant, as well as vitamins E, A, K, PP . Nuts are also rich in iodine, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc and other microelements.

Draw conclusions

You need to eat nuts for the sole purpose of enriching the milk with useful substances, which will certainly go along with it to crumbs. At the same time, we pay special attention to the amount of nuts eaten and the reaction of the child after taking them for food. You can continue eating them if you do not have any rashes on your skin and anxiety associated with constipation or colic.

It remains to wish only useful lactation without the sad consequences of its increase. Believe me, prolonged breastfeeding is not so much in the means of increasing the production of milk, how many in psychological contact with the baby, calm, rested and balanced state of his mother.
