Casino Luxembourg

Casino Luxembourg is a tourist attraction of the Duchy , whose name does not reflect its essence at all. But it was not always so. Initially, this building, created in 1882 by the famous architects Paul and Pierre Funk in the style of the Mediterranean baroque, was indeed the place where gamblers gathered. In addition, there were halls for celebrations, concerts, lectures and balls. It was in this building that the last performance of Franz Liszt took place. Thanks to this multifunctionality of the building, the transformation of Casino Luxembourg into the center of modern art does not seem to us to be anything surprising.

The decision to turn this place into a cultural center was made by the authorities in 1995. Then the global reconstruction of the building began. Inside the former casino, additional space was created to install the exhibits. At the same time, the architects did almost impossible: they managed to avoid the heaviness of the construction, which was quite difficult in these conditions. All works on the transformation of casinos into a museum were completed in 1996.
