First of all, the frozen herring should be given time to thaw in gentle conditions, shifting it to the bottom shelf of the refrigerator for twelve hours. After that we clean the carcasses from the skin, get rid of the viscera, fins, tails and heads, rinse well inside the abdomen, cleaning the remnants of the black films, then wipe it dry and cut into portions slices.

Together with the fish, we also prepare the vegetables that we need for its marinating. We clean the red bulbs and cut them into half rings, and grate the carrots on a large plain or Korean carrot grater. Lemon carefully washing, scalded with boiling water and shredded semicircles.

In a herring suitable for pickling herring, we put a small layer of onions and carrots on the bottom, add vegetables, season with sugar, peppercorns and laurel leaves and cover with a layer of herring, which is also solyim, sugar, season with the same spices as the vegetables, and then sprinkle grains of mustard and cover with wedges of lemon. Repeat the layers until all the components are finished, press the contents a little, cover it with a lid and place it on the shelf of the refrigerator for three days.

Before serving, we shift the pickled herring on a plate, pour olive oil or sunflower oil and enjoy.

The principle of preparation of this marinated herring in Dutch is identical to the above described variant with slight changes. First of all, the recipe is supplemented with garlic, and we will be preparing a snack in the bank. We prepare the herring properly, but additionally, before cutting the carcass into portions, we separate the fillet from the bones. We cut also an onion, carrots and a lemon and we mix in a plate sugar, salt and peas of a pepper. Now lay the layers in a jar of vegetables and fish, pouring a spicy mixture and carefully pritrambovyvaem. We cover the jars tightly with lids and place them on the shelf of the refrigerator for two or three days.
