Very long ago among folk crafts there is a technique of patchwork sewing, which in modern times received patchwork or quilt. It consists in sewing together bright pieces of fabric, which results in a new original thing. In this article you will get acquainted with sewing a quilt.
Before you sew a quilt yourself, you need to prepare:
- cloth: for shreds and fringes (black);
- batting;
- tools: scissors, centimeter tape, pins and sewing needles, iron, sewing machine and thread.
Consider the scheme of sewing quilt:
- From the selected tissues, cut out 256 squares measuring 8 x 8 cm. For convenience, it is better to arrange them in colors.
- We compose approximately the first block of 16 pieces of fabric (4 x 4 pieces).
- Lay the squares on separate vertical rows and sew them from the wrong side. It turns out 4 separate strips of 4 scraps.
- The last square is stretched along the edge so that it does not get scratched.
- We take 2 rows and sew them together.
- Continuing to sew the rows, we get the first block in the form of a large square.
- Repeating paragraphs 2-6, get another 15 blocks (there must be 16 in total).
- We make 20pcs of black strips 40 x 8cm and 5 strips 2m x 8cm.
- I alternate the short black bars and 4 blocks, sew them in one line. In total, there will be 4 bands.
- We take a black strip 2 m long and sew it to the upper edge of the previously obtained strip of squares.
- And we sew the next 3 strips of squares, alternating them with narrow black stripes.
- The blanket pattern is already beginning to be viewed. To ensure that the blanket is more neat, while working, iron the parts with an iron. To complete the pattern around the edges, there must be a black bar on all sides.
- We take a piece of batting and begin to sew it to the wrong side of the blanket received on three sides. Then we turn it out and sew it to the fourth one. It will be necessary to process the edges. For beauty, you can leave on the edge of the batting is more (15-20 cm), then the blanket will get longer.
- The quilt is ready!
Of course, preparing the parts, assembling and stitching the quilt takes a long time, but the result will please you with its originality. The technique of patchwork sewing can be used not only for sewing a blanket, but also for creating decorative pillows, bags, rugs and even clothes.
