White spots on the teeth

Quite often people at a reception with a dentist complain of white spots on their teeth. The causes of this phenomenon can be congenital, have a carious origin or be caused by other diseases.

Why do teeth show white spots?

The appearance of white spots on the teeth can be associated with such diseases:

  1. Fluorosis. This phenomenon is a process that is reversed by demineralization. That is, the disease occurs with an excess of fluoride, which, interacting with calcium, forms a solid basis of the tooth. There is a disease in the form of a white patch on the tooth, small grooves or dark spots. Recognize the fluosis is not difficult, since it affects several teeth at once.
  2. Hypoplasia. It is another factor in the development of pathology. The cause of the disease lies in the violation of the structure of the enamel, which usually appear in childhood white spots on the front teeth. Hypoplasia occurs for reasons related to prenatal development. With hypoplasia, not only spots, but also grooves, may occur.
  3. Begin caries. It can also cause a white spot. In this case, it can hit only one tooth. Treatment in this case involves remineralization and fluoridation. If there is no necessary therapy, a cavity appears, which requires complete treatment.

How to remove white spots on the teeth?

The method of getting rid of stains is chosen depending on the cause of their appearance. You can fight them in the following ways:

  1. Excess fluoride can be associated with poor water quality, therefore it is recommended to install filters or buy purified water.
  2. It is also important to exclude the paste containing fluoride. Now many manufacturers have a line of oral care products that do not contain fluoride.
  3. To strengthen enamel it is useful to include in the diet more fiber, vegetables, fruits and dairy products, because they have antifluroznym action. It is important to take vitamin complexes and fish oil.
  4. It is worth giving up fish, fatty meat and strong tea, because these foods are rich in fluoride.

Treatment of white spots on teeth

Dental treatment of fluorosis provides removal of the affected enamel by means of diamond boron. After the procedure, to remove the remaining stains, a special brush is applied to the teeth. After thirty seconds, the solution is rinsed with water.

Treatment of severe degree of fluorosis, accompanied by destruction of the enamel includes the restoration of damaged areas with the use of composites or with the help of orthopedic structures.

If the cause of white spots on the teeth is on the fluorosis, then you can get rid of them by resorting to remineralization. This procedure is intended for replenishing minerals, normalizing the crystal lattice of enamel and improving strength. The process involves the application of special mixtures consisting of such strengthening components as zinc, phosphorus, fluorides and calcium.

A kind of remineralization is the procedure of fluorination - saturation of the enamel with fluorine ions. This leads to the formation of fluoropatite formations that prevent the elution of minerals.

Remineralization is carried out by several methods:

  1. One-time application of disposable caps containing fluorine.
  2. Kapovy method provides for the production of individual caps, using which the patient is able to independently carry out remineralization.
  3. The coating of the tooth with fluorine-based varnish reduces the sensitivity of enamel and increases its protective properties. This method is used for minor lesions of one or more teeth.
