BT in pregnancy

As you know, changing the basal temperature makes it possible not only to determine the time of ovulation to avoid conception, but also this study can be used to diagnose the condition of the female body, in particular the hormonal system during pregnancy. Let's talk in more detail about how the basal temperature changes after the ovulation process, if fertilization has occurred.

How does the value of BT change during pregnancy after conception?

For almost half of the menstrual cycle, the basal temperature is 36.8 degrees. Increasing it occurs immediately at the time when the exit of a mature egg from the follicle is marked - ovulation. After some time after this process, it again takes its former meaning. If conception has occurred, the basal temperature (BT) remains at an elevated level, and on average is 37.0-37.2 degrees.

What causes changes in basal temperature during pregnancy?

The increase in the values of this parameter is due, first of all, to the change in the hormonal background of the organism of the pregnant woman. Thus, in particular, progesterone begins to be synthesized , which partly contributes to the increase in basal temperature. In this way the body tries to protect the fertilized egg from negative influences from outside (pathogenic microorganisms, infections).

Talking about the basal temperature of a woman, if there was a conception, it should be noted that in this case, the decrease in her values after ovulation, as is usually the case, is not noted.

However, it should be noted that a slight increase in it can be noted for other reasons, for example, - inflammatory processes in the reproductive system.

Often women, wanting to learn as early as possible about whether a pregnancy has come or not, try to establish this by changing the temperature in the rectum. That is why often think about what basal temperature will be in the morning, if there was conception (fertilization).

In fact, this parameter will not change so quickly. In order to confirm the fact of fertilization of the egg in this way, it is necessary to make the measurement data about 3-7 days. If during this time the basal temperature does not decrease, but remains at a level of more than 37 degrees, we can assume that the conception occurred. In order to determine the very fact of pregnancy, it is necessary to conduct an express test after 14-16 days from the moment of sexual intercourse.
