Sodium benzoate is widely used in modern industry as a preservative for products, and for creating firecrackers and fireworks. In products, sodium benzoate is added to inhibit the growth of bacteria and for the saturated color of fish and meat products. Numerous studies have shown that E 211 has a harmful effect on the body and it was banned from adding to manufactured products in several countries.

Food additive E211 is allowed for production in Russia and CIS countries, so you can often see it as part of food products, for example, on labels of different sausages. In these countries, developments are constantly being made to replace this preservative with a less dangerous one.

E211 is not allowed to be consumed in large quantities, because has a depressing effect on the nervous system, irritatingly affects the walls of the stomach, and also inhibits the production of enzymes, which disrupts the process of digestion of food.

Physicians have registered allergic reactions when taking products containing this preservative. Therefore, E 211 is forbidden to eat for people suffering from bronchial asthma or having a history of hives.

It is known the negative effect of sodium benzoate on the synthesis of protein in the cells of the body, especially sensitive to this chemical compound of the fetal cells, because with fetal development the immune system practically does not work. E211 causes immense harm during pregnancy, it is established that this compound causes first a depression of the nervous system during intrauterine development, and then leads to hyperreactivity of children. Also scientists noticed that this biological additive is able to reduce intellectual processes in children.

Harmful or not E211?

E211 is found in small amounts in some foods - apples, cranberries, cherries, etc. Such insignificant amounts of sodium benzoate as in these products do not harm the body, but in some degrees help immunity to fight bacteria. But the producers put far larger doses for preservation of the products than are programmed by nature in natural foods, so E211 harms the human body.

Reacting with ascorbic acid E211 turns into a dangerous carcinogen - benzene, which leads to the violation of gene information and the formation of cancer cells.
