On the earth there are more than a thousand species of weeds . Weeds compete with crop plants in the struggle for light, moisture and essential nutrients, causing damage to crop production. Therefore, in areas where vegetables and fruits are grown, it is necessary to fight with weeds. They are: annual, growing from the seed (their majority) and perennial, capable of reproducing under certain conditions annually.
The initial and most well-known method of weed control - weeding does not give a hundred percent guarantee of getting rid of them, since perennial weeds can germinate even from small parts of the root that remain in the ground. And besides, weeding is a very laborious process and not all growers can. But more recently, herbicides were invented to help fight weeds, chemical preparations applied to the surface of leaves and stems, and then gradually absorbed by the whole plant.
Of course, herbicides are a good thing, only to get a good result, it needs to be properly applied. That is why we consider in the article the main types and rules for the use of herbicides for the destruction of weeds.
Kinds of herbicides from weeds
Currently, about 240 products for weed control (herbicides) are being offered to consumers, and their range is constantly changing: since high-toxic and ineffective herbicides, which need to be used in large doses, are replaced by environmentally friendly, cheap and highly effective species with low rates of consumption.
The chemical composition of herbicides are divided into:
- inorganic;
- organic (most of them).
The way we affect weeds is:
- selective action - destroying only certain groups of weeds: weed, lontrel-300 or lontrel-300D, lapis lazuli;
- continuous (general) action, destroying all plants: sniper, hurricane fort, roundup, glyphos, ground, tornado, reglon, arsenal, basta.
There are also complex fertilizers with the addition of herbicides (dicamba), which are recommended for use on lawns from weeds and moss.
Basic rules for the use of herbicides against weeds
In order to treat weeds as herbicides as the most effective, it should be carried out taking into account the following rules:
- take into account the type of weeds, the cultivated crop, the time and the optimum treatment dose;
- It is possible to use not all produced preparations on personal garden sites;
- when choosing a herbicide, pay attention to the active substance, since many preparations with the same composition have different names;
- use on a personal site, only according to the norms of consumption specified in the instructions of this herbicide;
- processing can be carried out in spring, summer and autumn;
- for a good result in the soil should be a sufficient amount of moisture, but the crop plant should not be wet from rain or dew;
- it is better to process when the weeds are fresh and fast-growing;
- Do not use drugs if the night temperature is below 6 ° C, and the daytime temperature is assumed to be above 25 ° C;
- Do not use herbicides if the crop is severely damaged;
- Do not use the same herbicide, it is more effective to use herbicide circulation (alternation of herbicides);
- Use only clean water for herbicide dilution.
Due to the fact that herbicides can destroy either all weeds or only certain plants, they can be used not only for the complete destruction of weeds, but also for cleaning lawns and for processing crops after emergence, without harming crop plants. But still it is poisonous substances, and therefore when treating weeds with herbicides, adhere to mandatory personal safety measures.
