Planting gooseberry in spring

Gooseberries - a very remarkable "figure" on any site. The plant is loved by the useful and healing properties of berries, it can be consumed both fresh and cooked from it with delicious sunsets. Proper planting and further care for gooseberry is a guarantee of an excellent harvest. By the way, they plant shrubs in spring or autumn. Moreover, the timing of the year for this has its own characteristics. We will talk about how to plant gooseberries in the spring.

Planting gooseberries in spring: choosing a place

Planting gooseberries need to plan ahead. The fact is that shrubs spring in the spring, as a rule, worse than in autumn. That is why spring preparation should pass as much as possible in conditions comfortable for a plant. Keep in mind that the time interval when the gooseberry can be planted is very short. It is necessary to wait, when the heat comes, the earth warms up, but at the same time the plant should be planted only until the buds blossom.

Particular attention should be given to the choice of location, taking into account the peculiarities of the shrub. If we talk about where to plant gooseberries, a fairly moisture-loving culture, then the most suitable are wet, flat or flat areas, protected from the wind. At the same time, wetlands are absolutely unsuitable for bush.

In addition, gooseberries are considered to be a light-loving plant, and therefore we recommend you to stop your choice on well-lit areas of the earth. As for the quality of the soil, it is optimal for gooseberry fertile loamy non-acidic areas with good drainage properties. But sour, sandy and boggy soil for shrubs - the worst option.

How to plant gooseberries in the spring correctly?

Before the direct planting of gooseberries, preparation is also necessary for the site itself. The earth should be cleared of weeds and their rhizomes (especially osier, grasshopper, bindweed), aligned with pits and furrows, and dig up. Then in the cleared and dug up soil it is recommended to make fertilizers in the form of manure, compost or humus, as well as potash fertilizers and superphosphate. Calculation of fertilizers is approximately the following - about 6-7 kg of manure, 4 kg of superphosphate and 3 kg of potassium fertilizer per square meter. By the way, if you just plan to plant gooseberries in the spring on your site, we advise you to prepare the site and dig holes in the fall. With regard to the scheme of planting gooseberries, it should look like 1-1,5x2. This means that between the rows of shrubs it is necessary to hold a distance of 2 m, and in each row the distance between the plants should be 1-1.5 m.

If in the fall you failed to prepare pits, try to dig them 2 weeks before planting. The size of the pits can vary as follows: a depth of about 60 cm, pits should be no less than 40x40 cm. If the soil is heavy, a little sand can be poured into the bottom of the pit. By the way, when excavating pits, the upper fertile layer is added separately. At the bottom of each well, a mixture of a humus bucket, 200 g of superphosphate and 300 g of wood ash should be added.

To properly plant gooseberry seedlings need to be examined, cutting, if necessary, sick or dry roots, and a little having shortened the terrestrial part of plants. The landing itself is carried out obliquely 45 degrees to the surface of the earth. This will lead in the future to the formation of additional lateral shoots and rootlets, as a result of which the bush will have a wider base. Spreading the roots of the seedlings, they are covered with soil, without forgetting to cover the top layer with a separate fertile top layer. At the base of each young plant, you need to make a small hole and pour water in the volume of a half-bucket. After that, it is recommended to sprinkle the earth around the bush and water it again, then sprinkle it again with earth. To preserve moisture, the soil can be confused with peat or humus.
