History of the Palace of San Anton
As early as the beginning of the 17th century, the San Anton Palace served as a luxurious villa for Governor Antoine de Paula. After a while, the governor became the Grand Master of the Order of Malta and began restructuring his villa. He added to the building of the room and made a more elegant appearance, which resembled a small beautiful palace. Antoine decided to give a name to the palace and chose the name in honor of the patron saint of the Holy Master - Antonius of Padua. After the death of Antoine de Paula, the San Anton Palace was transferred as a residence to subsequent masters. The building was reconstructed many times, and the final view that we can see now, it acquired in 1925.
In the war period, the Palace of San Antón was the main point of meetings of servicemen. It developed important victorious strategies of leading generals and generals. Despite this, the building and gardens of the palace were untouched by military actions.
The palace in our time
The San Anton Palace is now not only the presidential residence, but also the main tourist attraction.
