Vertical beds

When you want to grow a large crop, and the size of the plot is modest, vertical beds - a very simple and effective way out. In addition, there is no need to bend over and injure your back.

Vertical beds in the country: why are they needed?

Have you ever encountered a problem when the land is located very conveniently, but the soil is completely unsuitable for cultivation of certain crops? Or the climate in your area is completely not intended for growing thermophilic crops, and you really want to enjoy the fruits. All these problems can be solved with the help of simple vertical cultivation.

In addition, the space on your site is used as rationally as possible. Not all plants can grow in an upright position, but there will also be enough space for them if the others are positioned at a height. Another advantage of such cultivation is the absence of contact with the soil. Thus, you will not encounter the problem of rodents or other pests. To build such beds is very simple and there is absolutely no need to spend large sums of money.

Vertical beds with own hands

If you decide to try vertical cultivation of plants, you should familiarize yourself with several ways of making beds. Let's consider five simple variants, as it is possible to make vertical beds:

  1. The first method involves the use of plastic troughs. Also, attachments and end caps are needed. On the wall we attach wooden slats at a distance of 50 cm from each other. Mark the location of each tier and attach the end plates, we will insert the troughs in them. You can grow plants in two ways: plant seedlings or put pots with ready-made seedlings.
  2. You can make a wooden pallet. You will need warehouse pallets, burlap slicing, garden cloth. To the inside of one side of the box we attach burlap (the distance between the stapler's staples should not exceed 10 cm). The back of the box is wrapped with a film. We leave only the upper end of the pallet open. We pour the soil in until the internal volume is filled. Then we make incisions in the burlap and plant the seeds. While the seedling does not take root, the pallet is kept in a horizontal position. This option is well suited for growing herbs and herbs.
  3. If you still have a wooden counter for wine or simply have a sheet of solid plywood, you can make vertical beds with your hands and out of them. The structure is prepared as follows: on the reverse side, the rack is reinforced with a net, filled with round coconut fiber holes and then with a seedbed. This option is well suited for crops that require a large amount of drainage.
  4. Vertical beds of plastic bottles. If you decide to plant plants with a shallow root system, this method is most suitable. In a plastic bottle (closed by a lid) we cut out a hole for planting seedlings, on the sides of the cutout there are two more holes for fastening the rope. On the wall, we nail a nail and hang a homemade pot on it.
  5. Plastic bag. Vertical beds for cucumbers and similar crops can be made from a large polyethylene bag. Its length should be about one and a half meters, the width of about 50 cm on the support in the form of a pipe attach the bottom of the bag. The bag is filled first with foam, then with a substrate of 3 parts of manure, 1 part of turf ground and ash. From below, vertical beds for cucumbers are wrapped with ruberoid. The holes are made in the form of triangles at a distance of 15 cm from each other. In them, seeded seeds are planted. Such vertical beds allow you to grow abundant crops even under adverse conditions and avoid problems with pests and insects.
