Conflict of interest

Every day we communicate with a lot of different people. Someone is close to us and we get pleasure from communicating with them, and with someone they just have to communicate with circumstances (work, study, receiving services, etc.). But even despite mutual antipathy or sympathy, all sorts of conflicts arise between us, it is inevitable. Conflict of interests is one of the most important reasons for quarrels, even among close people, even despite the fact that, on the whole, they treat each other well and love each other.

Examples of conflicts of interest in everyday life can be found at every step: children can not share a toy in a kindergarten; one TV in the family - the wife wants to watch the show, and the husband is football; two guys try to win the heart of one girl; one free seat in the transport, for which all those who have entered apply, etc.

Conflict of interest and its forms

Each of us has its own area of interest and from how much we are active in life it has the property to expand. And in the event that another person is also not less active and expands his zones, then there is a possibility that your zones may cross at some moment. So there is a conflict. In psychology, the notion of conflict of interest with the Latin language is translated as a collision and means one of the varieties of situations when two or more parties claim one object of interest.

If we talk about the signs of conflict of interest, then they are:

  1. The presence of the object and the situation, which each in their own interests perceives, as conflict.
  2. The indivisibility of a controversial object or object, that is, it can not be divided, it can go only to one person.
  3. The desire of the parties to continue the current conflict situation and the reluctance to yield to each other.

Thus, the peculiarity of conflicts of interest is that all participants are interested in it and everyone thinks in their own interests. This threatens with the fact that when the thinking of the action plan and their planning will shift to the actions themselves, then a dangerous situation will begin - directly the conflict itself, that is, the clash of the interests of its participants.

Conflict of interest resolution

To avoid this, five main ways of resolving conflicts of interests stand out:

  1. First, competition, which is expressed in the desire of each person to achieve their interest, even if it happens to the detriment of another person.
  2. Secondly, adaptation, that is, the sacrifice of their own interests for the sake of the interests of another person.
  3. Third, finding a compromise - that is, an agreement based on concessions from both sides. This kind of settlement of conflicts of interests can be expressed in providing options that remove the contradiction that has arisen.
  4. Further, the possibility of resolving the conflict can also be attributed to avoiding it, when both have no desire for unification, and at the same time there is no character of achieving their own goals.
  5. And finally, cooperation, it takes place when the participants in the situation have found an alternative that is able to fully satisfy the interests of each of the parties.

What would be perfect in mastering the art of preventing conflicts of interest, for example, in your family, at work, etc. It is necessary to be interested in their family members, colleagues, their interests and opinions. In this case, not only to be interested in positive qualities, but also pay attention to the weaknesses, it will help you better contact them. You also need the ability to listen and hear others, such qualities are even more valuable than the ability to speak. It will not be superfluous to follow your criticism, after all, everything is known to be good in moderation, it is better if the criticism is indirect, and veiled, so that it does not cause negative, but only pushes for improvement. Be careful with orders, understand and accept your mistakes, as well as other people's mistakes, smile more often and let's live together!
