Light for an aquarium

Light for fish in the aquarium is very important. It promotes the growth of algae, which are a source of nutrition and oxygen for the inhabitants of the aquarium. The correct intensity, spectrum and duration of illumination guarantee normal vital activity of all living organisms.

What light is needed for an aquarium?

For what we need light in the aquarium, we found out, it remains to understand how to choose it correctly. Immediately need to clarify that for fresh and marine aquariums requirements for lighting are different.

So, in fresh aquariums, plants need light of red and blue spectrum in the proportion of 5 to 1. Whereas for a marine aquarium the blue spectrum of light more suited to which sea inhabitants, including corals, is more appropriate.

At the same time, the more deep-water aquarium, the more emphasis is placed on blue. In shallow aquariums with sea water, the advantage goes to the white and red spectra of lighting.

If you choose a wide range of lamps, then for plants it is better to choose light with a temperature of 2700K. A compromise solution for good plant growth and beautiful illumination of the aquarium are LED lamps, in which you can choose a set of lighting spectra and brightness of light. Moreover, some luminaires have channel settings depending on the time of day.

If you choose which light is best for the aquarium - from fluorescent or LED lamps, then, of course, the latter is preferable. Fluorescent lamps quickly age, they need additional reflectors, whereas LEDs are more durable and comfortable.

Light for fish in the aquarium

Having achieved sufficient illumination for plants, you need to take care of the main inhabitants of the aquarium. If you live in shadefish, they are unlikely to like additional illumination. Solve this problem by creating shaded areas - snags, decorative shelters, dense vegetation, etc.

Reduce the level of illumination for the sake of fish comfort or to reduce the growth of plants in any case impossible. It is better to weed out the underwater vegetation more often and add shelter to the fish than to reduce the lighting. Intensive lighting of the aquarium should be at least 8 hours a day.

When the light in the aquarium is small, the inferior algae actively begin to develop, which prefer a low range of blue and eventually hang on the glasses with a "beard".
