Daffodils: planting and grooming in spring
Daffodils carry a shadow, but in well-lit places the quality of flowers is much higher. To the soil, flowers are also not particularly demanding, they grow in any soil, but most of all for successfully cultivating a flower culture, fit nutrient loamy soils with a neutral reaction. In order to provide daffodils with all the substances necessary for growth and flowering, before the spring planting of narcissi, the selected area is fertilized with compost or humus. This bulbous culture tolerates poor manure!
In case of excessive soil acidification it is desirable to make liming a year before planting by filling the soil with a mixture consisting of 200 g of hydrated lime and the same quantity of dolomite flour per 1 m 2. If the possibility of liming was missed, wood ash is used to reduce acidity, at a rate of 150-200 g per 1 m 2. The ash will be useful in the subsequent to maintain the optimum level of acidity in the place of growth of the culture.
Before planting bulbs of daffodils in the spring, they should be sorted to eliminate the diseased and damaged. The sorted bulbs are sprayed with "Fundazol" or half an hour kept in a weak solution of potassium permanganate. Then allow them to dry out. Effective smoke treatment. - in the phase of bud formation the first top dressing is organized: in 10 liters of water, urea , superphosphate and potassium sulfate are diluted (all components take 5 g);
- the second top dressing is planned for the beginning of flowering: for 10 liters of water, 5 g of nitrophosks and fertilizers "Effeton" and "Agricola-7" are taken.
Protection against diseases and pests
Planting daffodils often suffer from rot and fungal diseases. For the purpose of prevention at the end of flowering, the narcissus is treated with a Bordeaux liquid (100 g copper sulfate per 10-liter bucket of water) or with "HOM" (40 g per 10 liters of water). For the purpose of protection from pests before bud formation, it is treated with "Fetoverm" (2 ml per 1 l of water).
