Potato donuts - a delicious treat

Dough in deep fat mankind began to prepare since the days of Ancient Rome. The flour balls were fried in hot oil or grease, and then the finished ones were coated with honey or sprinkled with poppy seeds. As we can see over the past centuries, the method of preparation has not undergone any particular changes.

In many countries, there are similar dishes: Berliners in Germany, Austria, Galania in Italy, Donats in the USA, cursos in Spain and so on. The differences are only in the form of donuts and a bit in the roasting method.

The donut dough is prepared in a traditional way from wheat flour, as well as from other products: potatoes, pulp of chestnuts, pumpkin, cottage cheese, carrots, rice, meat, buckwheat or rice flour.

Donuts come with and without filling. For a stuffing all kinds of products are used, here we fantasize who can do it. The surface of the finished products is often sprinkled with powdered sugar, coconut chips or nuts. You can also coat donuts with chocolate or different types of glaze.

Potatoes are cleaned, washed and boiled in slightly salted water. Part of the potato broth is drained, and approximately 100-150 g is left. The broth is cooled to room temperature and we dissolve the yeast in it.

Potatoes are kneaded to the state of mashed potatoes, poured into it warmed milk, butter, add as much salt, sugar, and also infuse eggs and dissolved yeast. All mixed and gradually mixed twice sieved through a sieve flour. When the dough becomes soft and elastic, we put it in a warm place for one hour. After an hour we knead the dough and put it there for another half an hour.

The table is sprinkled with flour, we roll out the dough. Cut out a glass of circles. You can make dishes with a smaller diameter in the middle of the hole. Donuts are obtained in the form of rings.

In a deep frying pan, warm up a large amount of oil (so that the dough in the oil floats) and fry in it every donut on both sides. Spread on a sieve or on paper towels to allow the excess fat to go. Top donuts sprinkled with powdered sugar or greased with a sweet syrup of powder and hot water.

Donuts, therefore, a recipe can be made with the addition of a filling, for example from prunes. It is first steamed and cut into small pieces.

Soda is mashed in homemade yogurt , we drive in eggs, we add mashed potatoes , cheese, salt, sugar and spices. Stirring. Gradually pour the sifted flour and knead thick dough. Roll the dough into a layer about 1 cm thick. Squeeze out the round donuts with a glass and fry in the warmed vegetable oil on both sides. To the table we serve with sour cream and greens.

Salted potato donuts will turn out even more delicious if you put inside stuffing from meat, liver, mushroom or fish mince.
